April Showers are about come our way, and with that means tons of flowers. Tons of flowers naturally means allergy season will be setting in as well. I have my fair share of allergy issues, and recently Tall Dad has had a bit of a stuffy nose. Because I am still breastfeeding Itty Bitty, my allergy medicine and recommended vitamins are a bit different than Tall Dad's - so I went out and purchased a whole bunch of goods to help make our Family Allergy Kit!
I went on over to our local Walgreens to start gathering the items for our allergy issues. #WellAtWalgreens products are buy one get one 50% off in March - and I don't know about you, but I could really use some extra money in my wallet about now. Plus, one of the reasons that I love shopping at Walgreens is due to their Way to Well Commitment, where through December of this year, the company will bring preventative wellness services to local communities!
The first person I needed to #shop for was Tall Dad. I grabbed a box of Wal-tin and WalZyr - they are the #WellAtWalgreens brands, so we saved some money! This should keep him sniffle free, which is super important because he works around food, and the last thing he needs to be doing is sneezing all over the place!
Next up, I needed to gather items for Itty Bitty. Now, I don't know if he has allergies, but if he's anything like me, he's going to be a snotty mess this spring. Since he's only eleven months old, he isn't allowed to be taking spring allergy medicine. So, in the mean time, my goal is to keep his nasal passages squeaky clean! To do that, I'll need saline spray as well as a humidifier to keep the air nice and moist.
Last, but certainly not least, it was time to shop for yours truly. The layers of pollen and flower lined streets of Rhode Island are going to be incredibly difficult for me this spring if I don't take preventative measures. Usually I would take the same medicine as Tall Dad, but since I'm still breastfeeding, I need to play it safer and take a more minimalist approach. Here are the seasonal allergy tips that my doctor gave me:
-Use a humidifier or saline spray
-If you have a sore throat or a cough, take zinc gluconate lozenges
-Gargle with chamomile tea (and heck, you can drink that as well!)
-Short acting medications are recommended over the long-acting varieties (ie the 4 or 6 hour instead of 24 hour dose)
-Take medication right AFTER you nurse
-Keep up with your recommended vitamins during allergy season
No matter what, you'll want to talk with your doctor to see what he or she recommends is best for you and your baby.
Here's what I bought for myself:
Some water, saline spray bottle, chamomile tea, zinc gluconate lozenges, mini packets of kleenex, and some super cute chap stick because my lips always get super chapped during allergy season.
So there you have it! My whole family is ready to tackle allergy season! Bring it on spring, we're ready :)
What do you use to fight allergies?
