I've got to tell you, I am absolutely terrified of having a second child.  There are two things that scare me most - the first is the money.  Yikes.  We're barely getting by with one kid, how the heck are we going to handle another?  Second - the emotional stress.  Everything has been really tough with my first child.  But because it's been so tough, everything that has been good is actually rather special.  Call me terrible, call me ignorant, but I honestly can't imagine sharing that special feeling with another child.  This post, however, is the first part of a two part series talking about both my fears and it will focus on five ways we plan to save money for the second kid and maybe be a little more "green" while we're at it.

7 Ways To Prepare Your Child For Their New Sibling {guest post}

Saturday, March 28, 2015

Ask any parent in the world to choose between their children and they’ll never be able to do it! Things are no different for my husband and me. Our little boy and girl are extremely dear to us, and we love them more than our lives – irrevocably and unconditionally. Though we parents know that all our children are equally precious to us, little children can tend to get insecure about the arrival of their new sibling. It is, therefore, important to make them understand that with the new baby coming into the family, your care and love won’t get divided; it will only grow by leaps and bounds. Here are seven ways you can prepare your child for their new sibling:

So Long Winter - My Family Is Ready For Spring!

I'll admit it. I love snow. Truth be told, I probably love it more than anyone else I know (besides the fictional character Lorelia Gilmore – who, by the way, may or may not be my spirit animal.)

But I digress...

Eggo Waffle Bar - Our Favorite Breakfast for Dinner

I've been really good recently about eating a delicious filling breakfast over the past few weeks, and have also made sure to feed Tall Dad and Rhys the same! Our go-tos have been Eggo Waffles with peanut butter, eggs, and lots of delicious fruit.

Well last night, I just didn't feel like cooking dinner. I was tired, my 8 month pregnant belly ached, and Tall Dad had just returned from having a root canal. Slaving over a stove was NOT something I was looking forward to, so I decided to add a bit of pizzaz by proclaiming that we were going to have Breakfast for Dinner - in the form of an Eggo Waffle Bar!

I am so incredibly happy that spring is finally starting to appear here in Rhode Island! The birds have been outside singing their songs, and the crocuses are popping out on lawns all around our neighborhood. This spring is going to be extra special for our family because we will be welcoming our second baby into the family! I've been putting my enthusiasm to good use by getting the nursery ready, and also getting myself mentally ready, as well as giving myself the occasional fun treat.

Tall Dad and I are signed up for a refresher birth course, and I've begun listening to my Hypnobabies tracks again - reminding me that pregnancy and birth are special times in my life.

In addition to getting the house and myself ready, I've been treating myself a bit more recently. I have a pedicure planned later this week, have been taking daily naps in the later afternoon, and even bought myself a new maternity dress.

My maternal instincts have been kicking in, and I've been spending more time being creative in the kitchen as well.

The Top 10 Tracks Of Music To Play Your For Your Baby/Child {guest post}

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

I've finally started to like hanging out with Itty Bitty.  Trust me, he's been no day at the park. Between the terrible birthing experience, and then the colic, and then the even worse sleeping habits, he's really tested my mettle. But, now that we actually have a chance to hang out and enjoy each other's company, a favorite pastime of ours is to sit down and listen to music together.  Maybe it's because we played all different kinds of music for him in the womb, or when he was a slithering/crying mess of an infant - but he really enjoys hearing cool and different musical sounds.  So, here are his top ten favorite tracks of music (of the moment) he can't help but jam out too.  And trust me - they're eclectic, just like Itty Bitty.

You know the phrase "when Mom's happy, the household is happy?" Well in my family, it's often true! Lucky for Rhys and Tall Dad, I'm generally a pretty happy Tall Mom - especially when this busy on the go teacher/mom has proper immune support!

Easter Planning: Menu, A Disney Junior Easter Basket And A New Game

I have heard birds singing songs outside of my window for a week straight. This has truly been music to my ears. I was afraid that the snow would never start to melt, and that we were entering a Game of Thrones-like multi-year winter. One of the surest signs of spring, in addition to the singing birds, are all of the Easter decorations that I see being hung on houses and Easter basket supplies at local stores.

Last Easterwas the first Easter that we were able to celebrate as a family of three, and even though my son (then just a year old) didn't fully understand Easter, he still had a blast playing with items in his Easter basket.

What to pack in dad's hospital bag for birth

My pregnancy is slowing creeping to a close, as I have officially entered my third trimester.  I'm really excited, not just to meet my new baby, but actually for the whole birth process. Sure, my first birth didn't go exactly according to my birth plan, but I think because of that, I am much more prepared this time.  I'm planning on doing many of the things the same way - same doctor, same doula, same hospital - but a few steps along the way will be changed. Especially for my husband. My giving birth was incredibly traumatic for him, and I'd like this time around to be a bit more enjoyable. I'm planning on making sure he has a properly packed Dad's Hospital Bag, that he eats more frequently during labor if it takes a while, and that he gets a good night sleep - even if that means I kick him out of my room.
