TALL DAD CONFESSION: I'm Scared That I'm Not Bonding With My Baby

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

I'm having a really hard time bonding with Felicity. It's not her fault. It's not Tall Mom's fault. The fault is mine, and mine alone.  But here's the worst part - I feel awful about it.  Oh, and not just awful either - I'm scared too.  It's actually scared me to the point that I felt that I had to write about it here.  First, I need some support - how do I get past this? Second, I know if I'm feeling it, then there must be other second time dads who feel the same way too, and they need to know they're not alone.  But, before I sound like a total jackass, please let me explain why I've realized I feel this way, and what I hope to do about it.

ParentCast - Episode 24: The Festivus Episode - The Airing Of Parental Grievances

ParentCast is a podcast created by Tall Mom and Tall Dad.  It is essentially a companion piece to Tall Mom tiny baby and is dedicated to new parents & new babies.  Please subscribe to ParentCast on iTunes here if you like what you hear from us.

Hosts Mary and Blake are back from the long hiatus!  Happy Festivus ladies and gents!  This episode is all about the airing of parental grievances.  In it, you'll learn all about what parents have done that has really pissed us off over this past year.  We talk about the yappers, the oversharers, the hipsters, pretty much anything you can think of, we've got a grievance.  The problem is - we realize we do pretty much everything we rant about.  And, no, despite the time off to get better at podcasting, we still mess up the intro and we still can't close out the show before the music runs out.  Oops.

Evil Queen Eye Makeup Tutorial

You may not know this, but our daughter Felicity's middle name is Snow. Why? 1. First and foremost, because ***snow is my favorite!*** I'm part Christmas Elf. I love snowfalls, snowflakes, snowmen, snowball fights, and pretty much anything else to do with the white stuff. 2. I was pregnant with my daughter during the snowiest winter on record in Rhode Island. 3. Snow makes me happy, and with her first name, Felicity, actually MEANING happiness, we couldn't find a better fit. Basically her name translated to me means: Happy Happiest thing ever.  So now that I have a daughter, I am no longer a princess in my family. My status has been upgraded to Queen. And while I may not be like the Evil Queen in Snow White, I do want to feel like I am the fairest in the land...occasionally. So in today's post, I'll show you how I created a pretty eye makeup tutorial, based upon the colors and magic of the Evil Queen.

Newborn Baby Felicity - One Month Old Update

Thursday, July 23, 2015

Our sweet little lass, Felicity, is a month old! These four weeks have flown by, and I'm in awe of how remarkable our newest baby is!

Baby Gear: Nurse Me Tender L7 Nursing & Pregnancy Pillow Review

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Breastfeeding a newborn is a wonderful task that I have gladly taken on - twice!

My newest tiny baby, our little lass, nursed just minutes after she was born.  She has been a healthy eater ever since, and our breastfeeding has been going along quite beautifully.

We have just wrapped up the infamous six week growth spurt, complete with a couple of days of insatiable thirst. I felt like I nursed day in and day out, and my usually angelic baby was a "hangry" infant, crying and fussing if she was not next to my breast.

During these long days of nursing, I had a wonderfully supportive nursing pillow - the L7 Pillow by Nurse Me Tender

Blueberry Pancakes

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

We visited a local blueberry farm (Four Town Farm in Seekonk, MA) this past weekend and had an absolute blast picking berries. I'm hoping to go back again this Saturday, since our stash is almost already devoured. Blueberries make the perfect summertime snack, but they also help jazz up pancakes, as you can see in the pictures below.

Baby Essentials: Diaper Changing Bin & WaterWipes

Monday, July 6, 2015

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for WaterWipes. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

Having a second baby has given Tall Dad and I a lot of insight into what baby items are NEEDED/ NICE/ and otherwise UNNECESSARY.  For example, this go-round we have ditched the big bureau, and instead just use our tiny baby's closet instead to hang her clothing. We also figured out how simple a diaper changing station can be - especially if you live in a multi-floor home like we do.

Being two years old means that our son has an opinion. About everything.

He likes peas, but not carrots.

He loves the color red, and insists upon calling the color green, blue.

His favorite shoes to wear are sandals, and his favorite food is ice cream.

But above all else, my little lad loves Mickey Mouse.

Second Newborns Still Cost This Much?

Wait - hold on here.  I've already had a kid and it was expensive.  The amount of crap you have to buy is out of control.  But, when the heck did having a second newborn cost this much?!?  I feel like I'm having these awful flashbacks to receiving Amazon.com boxes every single day at my old apartment when we had a first tiny baby.  Oh, nope.  That's not flashbacks - that's the real deal.  And it's happening at my new home for my new tiny baby.  So I got to thinking - what can I do to relieve some of these costs?  Because if the spending continues the way it did with our first tiny baby - we'll be broke by the end of the year.  Here's the top 5 ways I can think of...

To Minivan Or Not To Minivan - That Is The Question

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #FueltheLove #CollectiveBias

I'm your typical American male - I love baseball, movies, football, cars, motorcycles and drinking the occasional American made adult beverage while grilling a 20 oz. porterhouse in my back yard.  But you know what I can't stand? Minivans.  My god, they are the bane of my existence.  The problem is,  Tall Mom and I had a second kid and we have to upgrade from our current vehicle to a reliable car that will be big enough to house all of their stuff. Unfortunately, the minivan may be our only option.  But here's how I plan on getting out from underneath that infernal vehicle's clutches...
