Tall Mom tiny baby: December 2015

MY FAREWELL FOR 2015

Sunday, December 20, 2015

I was glancing through a "Top 10 Gift Ideas for 2 year olds" blog post the other day, when I asked my son what he wanted for Christmas. I expected him to say something about Thomas the Train, Dragons, or books.

Instead he said he wanted a candy cane on Christmas. For he believes that on Christmas, everyone gets candy canes.

He did not mention presents at all.

It was then that I realized that this may be the last year that my son doesn't have to have a busy holiday season. He just wants candy canes, his friends and family....and I thought that was the smartest thing I heard all season long.

PAJAMA CHRISTMAS PARTY

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Everyone grows up with different things they love.  My husband always loved baseball and Star Wars.  My brother was a Warcraft nerd.  For whatever reason, my dad has a real passion for Moxie the soda drink.  My mom always loved knitting and being crafty.  But me? Well - I'm a nerd too and, true, I do love Star Wars like Tall Dad - but my one true love is Christmas.

I've watched Elf non stop, White Christmas was always in my DVD player year round and the Barbara Streisand Christmas CD I've had since the mid nineties has been played so much that I have literally worn it out to a point that a player can no longer read the data on the disc.

And while I don't know what my kids will love as they grow older (How To Train Your Dragon is certainly part of my son Rhys' repertoire already though) I can tell you that my love of Christmas has not been lost on them. In fact, Rhys and Felicity seriously LOVE Christmas.  Let me explain...

Let me tell you about the day I realized that I was a fully grown nerd. It was October 19, 2015. No, there is nothing particularly special about that day. It was just like any other fall evening in my beautiful city of Providence, RI - it was a Monday night full of football, getting ready for a Halloween party that was coming up, and I was pounding so much candy corn that I couldn't tell where my teeth ended and the cavities began.

It just also happened to be the night tickets for Star Wars™ The Force Awakens went on sale.

And this, my friends, is where the journey to full grown nerddom begins...

I am a Christmas Elf.  Seriously - if there was a "Christmas lover" ranking, it would be Santa, Buddy The Elf, and then me.  But here's the issue, I am terrible at buying gifts for people.  Especially Tall Dad.  What the heck do you get the man that has everything?  Jeez, what do you get any man?  Well, I've honestly given it some serious thought and I have a couple of ideas...

My favorite holiday music stations have been playing on Pandora for several weeks now. Our Christmas tree is decorated, stockings hung by the fireside, and this weekend begins our season of holiday parties and get togethers.

Tall Dad and I adore these times, filled with family and friends, as well as some of the best eating and drinking all year. Savory, sweet, and spices fill all of my senses!

Baby's First Thanksgiving

Friday, December 4, 2015

Thanksgiving has always been a special holiday in the Tall Family.  It's Tall Dad's favorite holiday (it's only competition is Trade Deadline Day for Major League Baseball - and, yes, he considers that a holiday) and while I always consider myself a true Christmas Elf, I really enjoy the idea of family getting together just for the simple reason of sharing a meal together.  But this year was extra special because not only did we host at our new house and fry a turkey, but also because it was the first Thanksgiving I got to spend with my little lass...
